Sr. Associate Dean, Educational Performance - School of Medicine
Job Description:
The Senior Associate Dean for Educational Performance will provide leadership for academic matters including strengthening and advancing School of Medicine competency-based performance of clinical skills, student professionalism, and student advising. The Senior Associate Dean analyzes findings from these activities and reports on areas where improvements can be made. The Senior Associate Dean for Educational Performance will also actively participate in the School of Medicine’s curriculum development and delivery. Additional responsibilities include reviewing and aligning School of Medicine policies and procedures across Academic Affairs, serving a primary role for all educational performance data reporting, and working to improve the overall academic profile by working with Academic Affairs’ staff.
Essential Job Functions:
- Advance academic excellence in the School of Medicine
- Oversee all educational performance data and related outcomes-based improvements as well as associate reporting to internal and external agencies
- Work with Associate Dean, Student Affairs and Admissions and Associate Dean Educational Affairs to prioritize educational initiatives to enhance student performance
- Serve as mentor to SoM faculty involved in UME
- Assist in the identification, recruitment, training, and retention of faculty from within UTMB interested in teaching medical students and/or involvement with admissions and advising
- Serve on the SOM academic affairs operations committee
- Advance School of Medicine competency-based performance of clinical skills
- Liaison with Associate Dean, Educational Affairs and Health Education Center leadership on design and use of human and non-human simulation for SoM student training and assessment
- Identify and remediate students with clinical skills deficiencies
- Advance student professionalism objectives
- Manage Early Concern Note process and procedure including meeting with students
- Identify and remediate students with professional behavior deficiencies
- Serve as administrative liaison with the Academic Progress Committee and the Academic Review Committee
- Lead the Professionalism Remediation Plan program and train and facilitate faculty engaged in the student PRP program
- Serve as liaison to the UTMB Professionalism Committee for matters within the School of Medicine
- Advance student advising objectives
- Serve as an academic and career advisor for a cohort of students
- Advise the OSAA on development of student-level guide to train new advisors
- Facilitate ongoing development and training of student advising mechanisms across OSAA and OEA
- Provide campus leadership for:
- Educational and programmatic processes and procedures
- Interprofessional Education
- Initiatives as specified through School of Medicine leadership
- Advise Vice Dean for Academic Affairs on matters of educational performance.
- May advise the Dean, Provost, and other executive leadership on SOM educational program issues
- Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
MD or MD/PhD degree and minimum 10 years experience in medical student education and curriculum development. A record of successful innovation and previous School of Medicine administrative leadership experience at level of Assistant or Associate Dean are essential.
