Biostatistician II - Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Women's Health (CIRWH)
Job Summary:
The Biostatistician II provides statistical support services to faculty, staff, and students at UTMB.
Job Duties:
Opening for a biostatistician to conduct research in the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Women’s Health at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) located on the Gulf Coast in Galveston, Texas.
Our group is actively working on projects related to women’s health, with a focus on cancer prevention. We have need of an individual who can mine large data sets, conduct complex analysis, and write the statistics sections of grants and manuscripts. The ideal candidate would have a thorough knowledge of methods in observational epidemiology as well as in conducting clinical trials.
The biostatistician will provide statistical support services to faculty, staff, and postdoctoral fellows. Our Center conducts research using a wide variety of data sources, including surveys, clinical records, administrative health records, and secondary data.
- Collaborates with investigators to identify problems and provide statistical consultation including design of experiments or surveys, analysis of data, interpretation of results and preparation of reports
- Assists with client data organization and management
- Performs statistical computations
- Provides graphical and tabular representations
- Develops, maintains and modifies programs for in-house use
- Performs non-statistical components of consulting such as providing analogous examples and explanations using nontechnical terminology, and helping researchers formulate and clarify research issues
- Analyze/evaluate data and make appropriate decisions/recommendations
- Monitors students, residents, & fellows in performing statistical analysis
- Communicate technical information to non-statisticians
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s in Biostatistics/Statistics and six years related experience.
OR
- Ph.D. in Biostatistics / Statistics and three years related experience.
Preferred Skills:
- Personal computer
- Proficiency in computing, including knowledge of statistical packages such as Stata, SAS, SPSS, R, or SQL
- Familiar with database management
- Problem-solving
- Excellent communication skills
- Good organization skills
- Knowledge of statistical and scientific research design
- Previous experience analyzing survey data
Salary is commensurate with experience. Starting salary will range from approximately $70,480 - $80,000 annually.
