Oracle Database Administrator (Software Systems Specialist III) - Galveston
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in related field and 3 years related experience.
SUMMARY:
This role is that of a Oracle Database Administrator that is responsible for the administration of multiple key databases at UTMB namely Epic Clarity, Epic Caboodle and the Enterprise Data Warehouse on a Oracle engineered server called Exadata. This role is essential to the availability of downstream clinical reporting since all clinical reporting are dependent on Epic Clarity. This role is responsible for keeping up with the source databases, ensuring they are optimized, are upgraded and patched and ready for Epic upgrades every quarter, monitoring daily data load processes against the database, monitoring database resources and performance so downstream reporting runs optimally, performs audits on the databases, handles security setup for databases. Other databases supported by this role also include the legacy Enterprise Data Warehouse which currently supports all Human Resources and Academics reporting.
JOB DUTIES:
- Install and Upgrade Oracle and Corresponding Application Tools
- The primary responsibility of Oracle Dbas is installing and regularly upgrading the Oracle database software. This requires expertise in Oracle and its corresponding application tools.
- Create Database Storage Structures
- Use database and coding knowledge to create database storage structures,
- Alter Database Structures as Needed
- Set up Database User Accounts
- Train data analysts on how to access the information contained within the database
- Debug Malfunctioning Programs
- Optimize Database Performance
- Regularly Update Database Security
- Create Database Backups
- Troubleshooting production issues related to databases
- Migrating code to production as needed
- Provide support during application upgrades (communicating with users, locking users out during upgrade window etc.)
WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm$
SALARY RANGE:
$110,000.00 to $120,000.00, actual salary commensurate with experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Oracle Database Certification – Required
- Years of experience: 3 years plus
- Database installation and Maintenance
- Data Extractions, Transformation and Loading
- Database Backup and Recovery
- Security and Authentication
- Capacity Planning Performance and Monitoring
- Database Tuning and Troubleshooting
- Experience with Oracle Exadata
- Experience with RMAN backups
- Experience working with Epic Electronic Medical Record database a plus
- Install, patch, maintain and monitor Oracle databases
- Create and maintain SQL and PL/SQL queries and shell scripts
- Monitor, and verify backups and perform ad-hoc backups
- Provide maintenance support for database systems.
- Database design
- Good knowledge of DBMS series of packages
- Command over SQL and PL/SQL
- Experience with the UNIX operating system
- Experience in creating and maintaining UNIX shell and Perl scripts.
- Basic programming languages such as HTML and XML
- Ability to lead projects
- Self-starter and the ability to work independently
- Ability to set standards for database users
- Quick thinking and careful analysis
- Attention to detail
- Ability to use resources available to find answers quickly
- Be able to think on feet since these databases are highly used and need to be consistently available
- Ability to translate technical talk into understandable terms for ETL developers, BI developers and Report Developers
- that are heavily dependent on the databases managed by this role.
