JOB SUMMARY:

The Clinical Applications System Analyst, Lead works for Hospital Administration and reports to the Chief Medical Information Officer. The Clinical Applications System Analyst, Lead works collaboratively with IS for roll-outs, upgrades and new functionality for the development and maintenance of evidenced based clinical order sets. This position is expected to be a liaison to Clinical Leadership and is responsible for the development of dashboards and perform analytics on order set utilization with desired clinical outcomes to identify successes and deficiencies.   

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE/ CERTIFICATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in clinical or biological sciences field OR equivalent years in experience (4) plus 5 years of related experience.
  • Certification in Epic EMR Inpatient Procedure Orders
  • Certification in Epic Cogito
  • Additional Epic certification

PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Clinical background in nursing or patient-care-related field and academic health center experience.

MUST be available to work on-campus when needed.

SALARY RANGE:

$91,154 - $145,846, commensurate with experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • The analyst is expected to proactively partners with physicians and health care professionals to analyze, develop, and maintain evidence-based clinical order sets.
  • Create order sets with a focus on high usability for health care providers and desired clinical outcomes.
  • Be a liaison to Clinical Leadership and is responsible for the development of dashboards and perform analytics on order set utilization with desired clinical outcomes to identify successes and deficiencies.
  • Ensure active input and agreement of all clinicians to support utilization of clinical order sets.
  • Function as project lead (planning and execution) of clinical order sets within a specified time frame as assigned by the Chief Medical Information Officer and UTMB Health System leadership. 
  • Develops and maintains knowledge of UTMB’s electronic medical record (EMR) and other software products as related to the clinical order set product development and delivery processes. Utilizes this learning as appropriate within the context of the interdisciplinary workgroups and related integration of the order sets into the EMR delivery system.
  • Understands components within clinical order sets, as well as interaction with other applications.
  • Maintains master files/library, streamline access and provides logical indexing for the evidence-based clinical order sets.
  • Collaborates with clinical teams to maintain appropriate updates to order sets.
  • Maintains a catalog of all evidence-based products developed on appropriate intranet sites for reference and downtime procedures.
  • Creates collaborative relationships and sustains a participatory environment. Interacts with initiative teams/leaders, other departments, and health care professionals and provides support for project management processes including orientation regarding the order set development process and associated EMR system.
  • Maintains constant communication and updates on projects status and any issues related to any of the initiatives with all stakeholders.
  • Plans appropriate group processes. Responsible for developing agendas and overseeing the completion of deliverables for all regularly scheduled meetings
  • Provides facilitation and staff support for committee meetings, including preparation of minutes and reports.  Monitors and coordinates progress of committees to ensure timely completion of clinical order sets.
  • Demonstrates awareness and understanding of institution, department and customer mission and goals
  • Partners with clinical staff and other support to design and implement metrics to assess use of order sets and practice outcomes and provides that data to stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with electronic health record staff to manage the balance of clinical decision support and alert fatigue.
  • Assists with the final preparation, publication, and communication of order sets for provider/multi- and inter-disciplinary team use at point of care
  • Orients and trains new employees, area personnel, and students in new and established clinical laboratory procedures.
  • Assists personnel with complex procedures, exercising independent judgment and responsibility.
  • Administers personnel policies such as sick leave, vacation, and performance evaluations for section personnel.
  • Provides input for interviewing/hiring/evaluating employees.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies including ordering supplies and monitoring expenditures and providing input for budget.
  • Adheres to internal controls, UTMB’s professional agreement, and reporting structure

MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Facilitates and serves on various committees as requested.
  • Performs related duties as requested by the Chief Medical Information Officer for UTMB Hospitals and Clinics.
