HCSS Communications Assistance Representative
JOB SUMMARY: To provide intermediate skills in the operation of a large telephone switchboard system.
MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:
- Operates telephone switchboard to establish or assist customers in making local or long-distance telephone connections.
- Routes all incoming and outgoing telephone calls placed through the switchboard.
- Provides answering service for various UTMB clinic after hours.
- Assists doctors, students, and other staff members on problems with their pagers.
- Provides information to callers and records messages.
- Keeps records of calls placed and charges incurred.
- Adheres to internal controls established for department.
- Performs related duties as required.
Work hours may include any or all the following (rotating 12hr shifts, after hours and days):
Sunday through Wednesday and, 6PM-6AM
Wednesday through Saturday 6PM - 6AM
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent and one year related experience.
EQUIPMENT: Central switchboard console, Western Union Telex, and Radio Page System
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Standard office / telecommunications environment.
