Electrician - Facilities Ops Specialist, BOF Central Area - Galveston
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or recognized equivalent. Journeyman level trade or craft with 6 years’ experience maintaining a health care facility .Training or licensure provided by one of the following:
Texas State License
NCCER Certification
UTMB approved Certifications
Community College certification or Associate degree
Must be capable of demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job in a post-offer employment test as administered by UTMB Rehab Services. This job requires the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. floor to knuckle and requires frequent bending, standing and walking.
Job Summary:
Perform at a journeyman level in at least three (3) distinct industrial/commercial trade crafts as approved by Facilities Operations and Management (Physical Plant Maintenance) or master level in one or more of the following trades/crafts (Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation/Electronics, HVAC, Structural, Refrigeration, Electronics/Fire Alarms) for work associated with research and healthcare specialized systems. Must have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Joint Commission requirements and standards, NFPA 101 2012, NFPA 110 2012 NFPA 99 2012, Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI), and ASHRAE/ASHE Standard 170.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with generators, paralleling switchgear, and controls is preferred
- Experienced in installation and maintenance of emergency power supply systems (EPSS)
- Familiar with electrical metering, PLC and switchgear communications/controls
- Experience with variable frequency drives
- Experience using electrical diagnostic equipment
- Experience with distribution switchgear, ATS’, transformers, MCC’s, motors, panelboards, circuit breakers and UPS’
- Strong knowledge of NFPA 70 & 70E publications
- Experience with maintaining and troubleshooting three-phase electrical distribution systems up to 4,160 volts
- Experience in a compliance-driven Healthcare setting preferred
Job Duties:
- Performs electrical journeyman or master level work in the designing, construction, installation, programming, maintenance, and operation of specialized systems of UTMB.
- Coordinates commissioning of specialized systems on new construction or renovation projects.
- Maintains proper building operating parameters to maintain the integrity of specialized electrical systems.
- Creates spreadsheets (or by other means) and maintains records for reporting requirements.
- Confers with users and management in order to gain an understanding of their needs and/or provides technical advice.
- Uses system expert skills and current diagnostic techniques to identify equipment problems and repairs.
- Proctors staff in proper maintenance strategies and assists with training requirements.
- Makes recommendations for scope, major repairs, and budget on equipment purchases and installs.
- Reads and interprets technical manuals. Also, provides “marked up” blueprints / drawings for corrections when needed.
- Performs work from written or verbal instructions, specifications, blueprints, or wiring diagrams.
- Designs and performs advanced predictive maintenance on specialized electrical equipment and systems.
EQUIPMENT:
Standard office equipment, standard industrial mechanical hand tools, power tools, and associated test equipment.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:
- Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory and/or office environments. May be exposed to such occupational hazards such as communicable diseases and harmful chemicals. Some exposure to weather and physical hazards. Exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards and may be required to work in high locations or crawlspaces.
- Exposure to areas under construction.
- Usual working conditions found in craft shops and mechanical rooms.
- Exposure to adverse weather conditions or temperature extremes.
- Exposure to electrical/mechanical hazards.
- Proper safety and precaution must be closely observed when operating and repairing specialized equipment and systems.
- Climb ladders and stairways and work on building rooftops of high elevation.
- Work in confined spaces such as ceilings, under floor crawlspaces, and manholes.
- May be required to work extended hours or rotating shifts.
