Summary:

The Director of Physician Liaison and Outreach provides enterprise-level leadership for strategies that strengthen, expand, and sustain referral relationships to UTMB across the Clinical Enterprise. This role is responsible for the development, execution, and evaluation of comprehensive outreach and referral growth strategies that align with UTMB's strategic, financial, and clinical priorities.

The Director serves as a senior ambassador for UTMB, leading a high-performing outreach function that engages UTMB physicians, external providers, employers, community organizations, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and other key stakeholders. This role partners closely with executive leadership, service line leaders, Faculty Group Practice (FGP), and referral operations to drive market growth, improve patient access, reduce leakage, and optimize referral pathways.

Scope: Clinical Enterprise

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute an enterprise-wide physician liaison and outreach strategy aligned with UTMB’s strategic and clinical priorities.

  • Serve as a senior ambassador representing UTMB to physicians, healthcare organizations, employers, EMS, and community stakeholders.

  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with external providers, EMS agencies, FSEDs, community hospitals, and employers.

  • Partner with service line leadership, Faculty Group Practice (FGP), referral operations, and executive leadership to drive referral growth and patient access.

  • Oversee outreach initiatives including EMS, faculty, service line, FSED, and community hospital engagement.

  • Analyze market share and referral data, including transfers, ED means of arrival, and leakage, to inform strategy and growth opportunities.

  • Establish performance metrics to evaluate outreach effectiveness and alignment with organizational financial goals.

  • Promote UTMB providers, programs, and services through targeted outreach, CME events, and community engagement.

  • Ensure effective issue resolution and feedback with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Provide leadership and oversight of physician liaison and outreach staff.

  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

  • Performs related duties as required.

  • Strong executive communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to influence physicians, senior leaders, and external partners.
  • Strategic, data-informed decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to lead in a complex, matrixed healthcare environment.
     

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Marketing, Business, Healthcare, or related field plus ten (10) years of progressive experience in physician relations, healthcare marketing, or business development, including leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree and experience in an academic medical center or large healthcare system.
