JOB DESCRIPTION : Provides grant proposal development expertise to faculty members and research personnel to enable competitive individual and team extramural research funding and facilitate research excellence. Supports faculty in multiple departments and/or center(s) in all phases of the research proposal process. Collaborates with other research entities and private companies to coordinate, develop, fund, and implement research and educational projects. Provides training and leadership to members of the research development team.

Min Qualifications:

Requires terminal degree (PhD or MD) or equivalent and five years’ demonstrated success in the field. Must possess written and verbal communications expertise, demonstrated leadership, initiative and interpersonal skills.

Specific Job Related Duties:

  • Develop a strong understanding and database of center faculty research and educational interests in the center and the alignment of these interests with signature and emerging programs across UTMB
  • Identifies funding agency proposal calls, prioritizes, and identifies faculty participants based upon their research, technological and educational expertise to assure success
  • Organizes project inception, development, writing and submission of NIH, foundation and industry proposals
  • Interpersonal skills to work well with colleagues and sustain the hub of innovation through the power of diversity of disciplines and people
  • Facilitates team science process to prepare large-scale, competitive multidisciplinary proposals, including leveraging collaborative opportunities across UTMB, with other universities and industry/community partners
  • Provides analytical, technical and professional writing for fundable proposals, including development of hypotheses, aims, and objectives, grantsmanship and scientific review, including assurance of accuracy and consistency
  • Develops metrics to measure performance and processes in assuring fundable proposals

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience

Preferred Work Experience:

  • Ph.D. with research experience.
  • Excellent oral, written and analytical skills, exhibits fluency in area of specialization
  • Successful submission of large, complex grants
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with the science of team science and effective team management strategies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the pre-award research administration process and sponsored grant life cycle; knowledge of research compliance as related to proposal submission and grant management; experience with creating and delivering training workshops.; excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment; advanced organizational and project management skills; excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Windows 10 computer and software systems.
