Research Scientist II, Microbiology And Immunology
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
A Research Scientist II position is available immediately to study pathogenesis of Yersinia pestis infection, the causative agent of plague, and to develop medical countermeasures against both plague and SARS-CoV-2. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or M.D. with a background in virology and bacteriology. The candidate must have experience working with infectious agents and BSL-3 and ABSL-3 laboratory experience working with animals. The candidate must be able to plan and perform experiments in an independent manner with minimal supervision. The applicant will also be responsible for writing papers, protocols, and lab reports associated with the project. The applicant must meet all State and Federal requirements necessary for working with Select Agents.
Duties
- Plans and performs in vitro and animal experiments independently in BSL-2, BSL-3, and ABSL-2 and ABSL-3 work environments
- Prepares lab reports
- Writes laboratory and animal protocols
- Interacts with graduate students
- Presents data at scientific meetings
- Maintains knowledge of BSL-2 and BSL-3 as well as ABSL-2 and ABSL-3 operations
- Adheres to internal controls established for the department
- Performs related duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph. D, M.D, D.O., or D.V.M in related field and one year of related experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At least two years of hands-on experience working with infected animals in a BSL-3 and ABSL-3 work environment is highly preferred. Experience in performing immunological and molecular biological techniques is highly preferred. More than three years of experience in immunology is highly preferred. The ideal candidate would have a DOJ clearance.
