Laboratory Supervisor, Infectious Disease
Job Description:
Supervises the laboratory and provides the operational management, technical support, laboratory training, and mentorship related to research.
Department Marketing Statement:
Immediate opening for an experienced virologist to work in applied infectious disease research for New UTMB Professor Gregory C. Gray.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in basic science or equivalent with at least 3 years of research experience.
Specific Job Related Duties:
- Work with a team of faculty, clinicians, postdoctoral professionals, graduate and undergraduate students in conducting research and training regarding human and animal viruses.
- Responsible for the ongoing supervision of the laboratory.
- Accountable for all budgets involved in the completion of ongoing experiments.
- Ability to provide staffing of the laboratory as a 24 hour functioning facility.
- Assists in writing and editing documentation of experiments and in the preparation of the laboratory for these experiments.
- Schedules all of the procedures to be performed and the experiments to be carried out.
- Performs the majority of procedures in the laboratory and supervises the laboratory technician in setting up and performing the experiments.
- Supports postdoctoral fellows in designing and completion of experimental protocols.
- Assists in design and preparation of abstracts and posters.
- Designs and carries out research protocols.
- Assists in the writing and editing of manuscripts to be published in major scientific journals, and in writing grants.
- Responsible for hiring laboratory personnel.
Preferred Qualifications:
3 years of experience in virology (cell culture, molecular assays, Sanger and next generation sequencing, serology), and experience in scientific publication.
Preferred Education:
- Master's degree in life sciences
Work Schedule:
- 12- month position
- Occasional short-term travel to international partner sites.
Salary Range:
$58,880 - $73,600 Commensurate with experience.
