Director, Center for Health-system Improvement (CHI) (Tenure Track)
Job Description:
The CHI at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), Galveston is a new Center formed in partnership between the School of Medicine and UTMB Health in 2021. CHI has a tri-partite mission of catalyzing rigorous research, helping UTMB to continue to evolve into a learning health system and enhancing population health in South-East Texas. We are recruiting a dynamic Director to help build The Center. Competitive candidates will be expected to have independent research funding and a deep commitment to applied research that has impact at the level of the patient, healthcare system, or population. He/she will also have a strong interest in mentoring junior faculty and fellows. Applicants will also be expected to have a demonstrable track record working on multi-disciplinary teams.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provides day-to-day oversight of CHI including supervision of research coordinators, research analysts, and other center staff.
- Plays a significant role in recruiting and hiring additional CHI staff.
- Serves as a mentor to junior faculty embarking on a research career.
- Serves as a resource to trainees seeking to develop their own independent research projects and studies.
- Builds bridges with Clinical Departments and Programs.
- Conducts his/her own original independent research.
- Collaborates with faculty across UTMB providing methodological expertise as a co-investigator.
- Teaches in the undergraduate or post-graduate medical education program, or within UTMB’s new College of Public Health.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
MD or PhD with 5+ years of experience conducting and leading research in the area of quality improvement, patient safety, health services research, implementation science, or a related discipline.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with clinicians including physicians and nurses in team-based quality improvement efforts.
- Experience hiring and managing staff.
- Outstanding interpersonal communication skills.
SALARY:
Commensurate with experience.
