Community Education Specialist - TDH Poison Center
JOB SUMMARY:
To educate the community on the various programs and services offered by unique UTMB departments.
MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:
- Creates, implements, measures and records poison prevention, poison services and community-wide marketing campaigns.
- Establishes contacts and maintains close relationships with contacts in all facets of media.
- Creates promotional booklets and pamphlets; writes and edits scripts for television and radio public service announcements.
- Recruits well-known leaders to be spokespersons for programs and presentations.
- Provides documentation of educational activities for state requirements and accreditation.
- Coordinates activities for poison prevention week.
- Mails out poison prevention pamphlets and supplies.
- Survey public for target programs and client satisfaction.
- Maintain poison center website, Facebook, and texting Services.
- Adheres to internal controls established for department.
- Performs related duties as required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in related field and three years of related experience.
EQUIPMENT:
Standard office equipment. Be able to lift 30 pounds.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Standard office environment. Travel up to 50% of working time. Flexible schedule.
Will travel to attend annual poison center meetings (North American Congress of Clinical Toxicology). Will also travel across our 26-county region to present poison prevention presentations at schools, churches, and community events. Will attend health fairs for all age groups. Depending on scheduling, overnight stays to maximize our presence and minimize our travel times may be required.
